Beavers

The Beavers section is for young children aged 6 to 8 years old, and generally meet for an hour per week. Beavers take part in a wide range of exciting activities, games, and challenges that aim to develop their confidence, social skills, and teamwork abilities. The program is centered around the idea of learning through play, with activities focused on nature, creativity, and exploration. Beavers engage in various outdoor activities, craft projects, and simple hikes, fostering a sense of wonder and appreciation for the natural world. Throughout their time in Beavers, children have the opportunity to earn badges for their achievements and participate in fun and memorable events like sleepovers and day trips.

Structure

A Beaver Colony may be organised into smaller groups called Lodges. Lodges can be used in a number of ways to facilitate the organisation of the Beaver Scout Colony. They may provide a ‘home’ area for Beaver Scouts to gather at points at the start, during or at the end of the Colony meeting.

Activities

During their time in the Colony, Beaver Scouts will get a chance to try a wide range of different activities as well as going on trips, days out, and on sleepovers. Participation, rather than meeting set standards, is the key approach, and there are a range of badges and challenge awards that Beaver Scouts can gain to recognise their achievements.

Beavers Badges and Awards

There are a range of badges and awards available to young people in the Beaver Scout section.

Activity Badges

Many of the badges available are activity badges, which allow Beaver Scouts to show their progress in existing pursuits, but also to try all kinds of new things and form new interests.Staged Activity Badges are available to young people from Beavers to Explorers, and cover a range of topics and skills. The stages have increasing levels of difficulty, and a Beaver can begin at whichever stage offers them an appropriate level of challenge.

Challenge Awards

Achieving a Challenge Award involves accomplishing a number of more ambitious tasks within the Colony or community. These Awards support the main themes of the Programme; outdoor and adventure; world and skills.  Beavers take part in a range of activities to develop their skills and understanding in each of the challenge areas.
