This year’s camp was held at Gilwell park (the home of Scouting). It was attended by 10 Hornchurch Cub Groups. There were plenty of site activities Freefall 2, Ariel Trek, Wobbly Pole, Jacobs Ladder and also our own bases to keep the Cubs entertained. Saturday evening there were bases supplied by each group and the Cubs went round and had a go at all of these. The weather held out and the sun shone most of the time. On the Sunday morning, we held the District Cubs Sports day, sports included were obstacle course, welly throwing, sack race, egg and spoon and normal running.
Well done to the Cub of the camp who received a certificate and also a Scout hand spinner which was the envy of all the Cubs. I am sure that all the Cubs and leaders had a really good time. I know my Cubs are looking forward to next Year.
Thanks to all the leaders that worked together to make this event happen.
1st Corbets Tey Cubs came first in this years District Cubs Soapbox Derby. Not such a big turn out this year as the weather has been very wet this week, But on the day only a couple of quick showers showed up. Ten teams took part in the figure of 8, oval, obstacle, team challenge and endurance race. No major crashes during the day (not one plaster used) just a few loose wheel nuts. We also had an individual scooter challenge time trial. Congratulations to Oliver from 8th Hornchurch Jupiter Cub pack who took home the trophy. The best decorated cart was won by 7th Squirrels Heath Cubs. The final race was the leaders race. Six excited leaders jumped into the carts and were pushed by the Cubs. The unlucky Cubs who picked Jack to push had a very hard job to do. Lisa Millington from 1st Corbets Tey came first closely followed by Mick Cross from 1st Elm Park.

Baden Powell chose St George to be the Patron Saint of the Scout Association. He felt that St George set a good example of faith, courage and perseverance.
So today, the 23rd April 2017 Hornchurch held their annual St George’s Day Parade and we were pleased that the Mayor of Havering, Councillor Philippa Crowder was able to join us for our celebrations. We were fortunate that the weather was fine, there were lots of smiling faces with the young people and Leaders wearing their uniform with pride and as with all St George’s Day celebrations during the service, all present were able to renew their Promise.
Hornchurch District is a great place to be a Beaver, Cub, Scout, Explorer, Network or Adult Leader/Supporter, and a big thank you to each and everyone who attended.
So this weekend saw the first Hornchurch Scout Network Christmas camp bringing together 30 of our leaders and supporters together aged between 18-25.
the weekend was full of xmas themed events in true scouting style and even managed a full Christmas dinner using traditional cooking styles and also the use of a fire.
it went really smoothly and everyone who was in attendance enjoyed themselves i can say that even tho Network is still very young in this district you can see from the photos that it has a very bright future
i would like to say a massive thank you to Jack Bresslaw who took the lead in this event as event co-ordernator bring all these young people together and providing an awesome event
